Draw alongside the silence of stone until its calmness can claim you. Be excessively gentle with yourself. -John ODonohue

Have you ever heard the silence of standing inside a cave? Can you visualize it? The cool, grounded quality of the dirt and stone. The cave paintings and petroglyphs. As if you some how can imagine the people before you who lived among those stones. We are temporary and the stones have a more permanent quality. We are young and the stones are wise. Time smoothes the rough edges of a stone.

I would like to draw on this quote and visualization today as we approach the eve of election for the president of the united states. During this time, Be excessively gentle with yourself.

Today and tomorrow what will support you in being kind to yourself? Will it be your practice, loving kindness meditation, a random act of kindness toward a stranger, being in nature away from media, deep breaths, reaching out to a loved one?
